Matilda campaign goes on

TRUCK and car drivers are being asked to add their weight to the efforts of transport unionists, local politicians and Kybong residents in a growing campaign to upgrade the Matilda intersection with the Bruce Highway.

Union secretary Hughie Williams confirmed yesterday that he would visit the site for the third time in quick succession at 11.30am this morning.

Gympie MP David Gibson and Federal Member for Wide Bay tative Warren Truss have also been invited. .

Mr Gibson yesterday congratulated the union for joining the campaign.

“And let’s give full credit to the two truckies, Brendan Blatchly and Michael Hogg for getting this campaign started and getting the TWU on side,” Mr Gibson said.

Mr Williams yesterday asked residents to give Mr Gibson and Mr Truss all the ammunition they could by letting them know their concernserns, along with federal Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese and Queensland Transport Minister Rachel Nolan.

“We will continue to lobby all those responsible to have this area of road rectified,” Mr Williams said.
