Masseur in court over alleged rape

A MASSEUR has been committed to trial in the Gympie District Court for allegedly digitally raping a client earlier this year.

Godfrey Graham Owen, 49, did not enter a plea when he appeared before Magistrate Maxine Baldwin for a committal hearing on Wednesday, where it was found that there was enough evidence to put him before a jury.

The court heard that Owen, of Brooloo Road, Imbil, arrived at his client's home on a day in February to perform massage as arranged.

Police alleged that Owen's client was home alone at the time. She undressed in another room and laid face down on the massage table.

Police said Owen told the woman it would be easier if she removed her underwear and then penetrated her with his finger, causing her to flinch and exclaim.

The incident was believed by the complainant to be a deliberate act and she notified police to make a formal complaint once Owen had left her home. The matter was set down for the next available sittings of the Gympie District Court.
