Stags win brutal clash with Snakes

THE Mary Valley Stags have come out on top after a “brutal clash” with the Caboolture Snakes at Kenilworth on Saturday with a score of 22-12.

With rain threatening and a heavy track, ball security was utmost in the players’ minds, said team spokeswoman Jenny Carlson.

“This was a clash between the fourth and second position on the Sunshine Coast Gympie Red Rooster C-grade competition and it was intense with play from both sides being of a very high quality and any mistakes pounced on by either side,” Mrs Carlson said.

Caboolture scored first and the Stags responded in the 15th minute.

“The score remained at six all until just before half time when the Stags crossed over twice.”

Soon after half-time Caboolture scored again, leaving a one-converted-try gap.

“It could have been anyone’s’ game, but the Stags pulled it together and put another try on.”

The Stags try-scorers were Cameron Waugh 1, Joshua Heck 1, Troy Carlson 1 and Brendan Hunter 1; Josh Heck kicked 3 goals. The players’ player went to Josh Ryan.

Next week’s game will be played at Kandanga’s Jack Spicer Oval at 2pm.
