URANGAN STABBING: Graphic details released about attack

UPDATE 9.50AM: GRUESOME details of a stabbing in a Urangan home on Wednesday have been revealed, as the Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch continues to piece together how the violent attack unfolded.

Police believe that on the night of October 26, just after 9pm, about four people entered the victim's home in Deloraine Ave and attacked him.

The victim was left with deep lacerations to his hands and arms, including two almost completely severed fingers.

Maryborough CIB Detective Sergeant Mick Polit said the 25-year-old victim drove himself from the home in Urangan to another residence in Urraween, where he was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics.

Det Sgt Polit said police would be interviewing the victim on Friday, as he recovers from surgery in Hervey Bay hospital.

No one has been charged in relation to the incident.

UPDATE 12.05PM: A 25-YEAR-old Urangan man is expected to undergo surgery on Thursday after he was stabbed during an invasion of his home on Wednesday night.

Police are asking for information about the incident that happened around 9.15pm, and left a man with cuts to his arm and hand.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Briese from the Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch said the investigation was still in its early stages.

"At this point in time what we know is that we had a call to respond to a Deloraine [Ave] address in Urangan, where it's alleged that a number of people, possibly four, forced their way into a house and assaulted a 25-year-old male," Det Snr Sgt Briese said.

"They've then left, and the 25-year-old was taken to Hervey Bay hospital, believe he'll undergo surgery today with an injury to his arm and hand."

Police believe a "bladed weapon" was used in the attack.

Det Snr Sgt Briese said it was believed the people involved were known to each other.

"We don't believe it was a random attack," he said.

"But yes it would have definitely been scary; 9.15 at night, four persons coming in to assault you, I think we can imagine how terrifying that would be."

If you have information that may be able to help police with the investigation, you can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Hervey Bay Police Station on 4128 5333.
