Man who suffered burns to legs arrested for car theft

UPDATE: A 21-year-old Ooralea man has been arrested and charged after the theft and damage by fire to a vehicle from an Ooralea home.

Between 8.30 pm on February 3 and 3 am on February 4, a white Mazda sedan was stolen from the owner's home driveway.

Police later received information from members of the public who observed the stolen vehicle on fire near the intersection of Broadsound and Boundary Rds.

A description of a person running from the scene was also provided.

Further investigations led police to a nearby address where a 21-year-old man was receiving medical treatment for burns to their legs.

After speaking with the man, he has subsequently been arrested and charged with the unlawful use of a motor vehicle and arson of a motor vehicle.

The date for the court appearance at the Mackay Magistrates Court has not yet been set.

 

EARLIER: Paramedics were called to a bonfire at Ooralea where a man in his 20s had suffered burns to his legs.

Paramedics transported the man to Mackay Base Hospital from Canecutters Dr, Ooralea at 4.10am with significant burns to his legs .

He was in a stable condition during the trip.
