Police probe bikie links to death

THE body of a man found on the Sunshine Coast, who is believed to have suffered a gun-shot wound, has become the subject of a massive police investigation.

Detective Superintendent Maurice Carless said there were now experts in forensics, ballistics, fingerprints working with local detectives and homicide teams to investigate the death of the 24-year-old Buddina man on Old Caloundra Road last night.

Det Supt Carless said there was no word on how he came to be on the road, nor would he confirm that he suffered a gunshot wound.

He said the police were not “ruling anything in or ruling anything out” yet, but said there was no information to connect last night’s death with the carjacking at Caboolture yesterday afternoon.

“There’s no information to substantiate a link with the Caboolture incident,” he said.

“We have no firm suspects at this stage but anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Det Supt Carless said he did not believe Landsborough residents had anything to be afraid of, considering the police presence in the area at the moment.

He also declined to refer to the incident as a murder, instead confirming that it was a “suspicious death”.

Early reports indicated that a motorist had contacted the Queensland Ambulance Service which attempted to resuscitate the man, but Det Supt Carless said he understood the man was dead by the time emergency crews arrived.

A crime scene has been established and a major incident room has been set up at Caloundra Police Station to investigate the matter.

Det Supt Carless said police would investigate whether drugs or outlaw bikie gangs were involved in the incident.
