Man plunges to his death at Isis Central Mill

WORKPLACE Health and Safety are investigating after a 51-year-old man plunged more than 3m to his death at the Isis Central Mill.

Bundaberg Police Senior Constable Tim Lowth said the truck driver, a contract worker employed to collect molasses from the mill site, arrived there to fill his truck at 5.30am today.

"He got his first tank full and, as he's replacing the molasses drainage pipe, he's overbalanced and fallen from the top of the tank onto the concrete," he said.

Snr Const Lowth said the man plunged backwards 3.16m, striking his head on the concrete.

"He sustained massive head injuries from which he did not survive," he said.

Snr Const Lowth said another driver had been filling his truck with molasses at the same time.

"He was facing the other direction," he said.

"The man heard him cry out.

"He's then raced over to him and Isis Central Mill staff have performed CPR and did their best until the Queensland Ambulance Service arrived."

The man's next of kin has been notified and police are now preparing a report for the coroner.
