Man jailed for road-rage bashing

BASHING a motorist with a wheel brace in a road rage incident has sent a convicted armed robber to jail for two years.

Shaun Douglas Piening, 21, was a passenger in a car on the Pacific Motorway, in Brisbane's south, when another motorist cut him and his friend off last November.

Brisbane District Court heard on Tuesday how the two cars pulled over and Piening hit the driver of the other vehicle in the face with the wheel brace, causing minor cuts near his eye and lip.

Judge David Reid said Piening was also party to "reckless and dangerous" side-swiping when the cars continued along the motorway.

He said the other motorist stopped in Annerley but did not see Piening and his friend pull up too.

Judge Reid said the two men were striking him with fists through the driver's side window before trying to drag him out.

He said luckily a police officer was operating a speed camera nearby and could assist.

Piening had blamed his aggressive behaviour on an amphetamine addiction which he says he has now overcome, evident by the 20kg he has put on.

Piening will be released on parole in February, 2013, after serving eight months in jail.
