Man hit in the leg with an axe in Pialba

POLICE say a man has been hit in the leg with an axe on Queensland's Fraser Coast.

It is alleged a fight broke out in Pialba on Friday night in which a 46-year-old local man was hit with a small axe.

Police say he was taken to Hervey Bay hospital for treatment of a serious wound to his right leg, but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

A 33-year-old man, also a local, has been charged with one count of unlawful wounding over the incident.
