Man charged after alleged carjacking

A MAN is facing torture and domestic violence charges after carjacking a woman and driving his terrified hostage to a dirt track off a Queensland highway.

It's alleged the man jumped into the 37-year-old woman's car on Friday afternoon, attacked her and forced her into the front passenger seat before driving to the track off the Daguilar Highway, near Wamuran, 60km north of Brisbane.

Police say the 43-year-old kept attacking the woman on the track, prompting a passing driver to stop, but the man then threatened the good Samaritan before speeding off with the woman. Police found the pair, who were known to each other, a short time later.

National domestic violence helpline: 1800 737 732 or 1800 RESPECT. In an emergency call triple-zero.
