Man to face court for sexually assaulting 10-year-old girl

A 38-YEAR-OLD man charged with sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in her Mount Louisa home last Thursday is expected to face court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Miles said police found the man in the Vincent area on Friday afternoon and he was charged two counts of assaulting a child under the age of 12.

"This is an incident where a gentleman had been staying with a family in a local home and had been identified as committing offences on a 10-year-old girl in that residence," he said.

"He fled from that address at that point in time when police were notified."

"Any form of sexual assault is horrific by nature regardless on who it was committed upon or by whom.

Detective Senior Sergeant Miles said the man was known to police.

"He's certainly a person who has an itinerant lifestyle and he's known to us through that lifestyle," he said.

The man is in custody and is expected to face Townsville Magistrates Court this afternoon.
