Man dies after being hit by car, driver to face charges

UPDATE: An 18-year-old man did not appear in court today over charges of driving while disqualified, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and leaving the scene without obtaining help. 

No application was made for bail. 

The case has been adjourned until February. 

EARLIER: A man has died after being struck by a car at North Bundaberg on Thursday evening. 

The man was taken to Bundaberg Hospital yesterday but was pronounced dead. 

The driver of the vehicle that hit him is expected to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Friday morning to face charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and driving unlicensed. 

Police will allege that a 38-year-old local man was walking along Queen Street at about 5.35pm when he was struck and fatally injured by a four-wheel drive.

An 18-year-old man, known to the victim, was arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death and unlicensed driving. 

This vehicle, containing a man and woman, allegedly failed to stop.

The crash happened near the Young Australian Hotel and caused the closure of the Burnett Traffic Bridge until the scene could be cleared.
