Police identify fatal crash victim
UPDATE: Gowrie Junction man Danny Fyn has been identified as the victim of a fatal car crash on Ramsay St in Middle Ridge.Southern Region Traffic Coordinator Inspector Bruce Dimond said the 44-year-old was driving on an unsealed section of the street when his vehicle collided with a tree about 12.30pm Sunday. "It has collided with a tree and spun around," Insp. Dimond said. Paramedics at the Middle Ridge scene pronounced Mr Fyn dead about 45 minutes after the impact. His passenger, a 30-year-old Kearneys Spring woman, was treated for a broken arm before being taken to Toowoomba Hospital. She was yesterday listed as being in a stable condition. Insp. Dimond said police reports indicated the woman had only known Mr Fyn for about two weeks. "Police are investigating if a possible medical condition may have contributed to the crash. "We are also awaiting the results of a medical exam to find out whether (or not) drugs or alcohol were involved." Emergency services were called to Ramsay St, near Echo Valley Park, about 12.30pm yesterday after reports a car had crashed into a tree.
Paramedics arrived to find the driver, a man aged in his 50s, dead at the scene.
They treated the 30-year-old woman passenger for a fractured arm before taking her to Toowoomba Hospital.
The accident happened on the dirt section of Ramsay St.
Toowoomba Police Acting Sergeant Des Neijens said the investigation was very much in the early stages.
"It's a really early stage in the investigation and there are a lot of people to be spoken to yet," he said.
"We're really trying to investigate further to find out what happened and information from the public would be welcome."
