Man charged over mosque assault

A MAN has been arrested over an assault outside a mosque at Ascot Park  but police say they do not believe it was racially motivated.

The male victim was standing outside the Marion Mosque on Marion Rd when the suspect struck up a conversation with him about 10pm on December 22.

CCTV footage released by the Islamic Society of South Australia shows the suspect speaking with the victim for a short time before allegedly punching him in the face.

The victim sustained facial injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Last week, police released pictures of the suspect and appealed to the public for information.

They arrested a man, 35, from a Reynella home.

He has been charged with assault causing harm and has been bailed to appear at the Adelaide Magistrates Court in March.
