Man arrested over 2008 death

GOLD Coast detectives have arrested a man in relation to a death at a Palm Beach motel in 2008.

Serious and Violent Crime Squad police have charged a man in relation to the suspicious death of 20-year-old Tyler James Smith who was found dead in a motel room.

The South Eastern Police Regional crime coordinator Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson said that the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Smith have been reviewed by officers who have conducted investigations throughout Australia.

"As a result of these investigations a 24-year-old man was arrested and charged today with manslaughter and will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday," Det Supt Hutchinson said.

"The Serious and Violent Crime Squad continues to support regional detectives in the investigation of serious criminal offences and this arrest reinforces the fact that all offences will be thoroughly investigated, no matter how much time has passed."

Detectives are continuing investigations into the possible involvement of others in the death of Mr Smith.
