Naked man allegedly breaks into op-shop, makes it his home

A 19-YEAR-OLD Gayndah man allegedly created a makeshift home in a charity shop, before committing a number of alleged offences naked.

On April 25 Gayndah police were called to the Lifeline op-shop on Capper St at 6pm, to find the man had allegedly broken into the store.

Gayndah officer in charge Sergeant Don Auld said the 19-year-old had made himself at home, and created a mess.

"He has [allegedly] pulled the furniture out from the back shed of Lifeline to use as a makeshift kitchen, and outdoor lounge," Sgt Auld said.

"He made himself at home, and slept and ate there."

Police arrested the Gayndah man, and charged him with entering a premise and committing an indictable offence, and lawful damage.

After being released on bail, Gayndah police then encountered the man again on Sunday, April 26, under some peculiar circumstances.

According to Sgt Auld, the man had allegedly stolen bed sheets from the Burnett Hotel's clothesline, before he was refused entry into the hotel.

They were called at 9.30pm to find the man was doing "silly things" to himself, while completely naked.

He was subsequently arrested, and taken to the Maryborough watch-house, where he appeared in magistrates court the following day.

The 19 year old was charged with unlawful exposure, entering a licenced premises when refused entry, and stealing.

He was then fined, with no conviction recorded for the offences on April 26.

The man is set to appear in Gayndah Magistrates Court later this year on the break and enter charges.
