Malceski move heads AFL trade talk

THE Gold Coast Suns are trying to lure Sydney Swans defender Nick Malceski (pictured) north, but uncertainty over the future of Suns coach Guy McKenna could scupper the deal.

With attention now turning to trade deals following Saturday's grand final, Malceski's manager Ben Niall confirmed the Gold Coast was one of the clubs in the running to sign the 30-year-old unrestricted free agent.

"They (Gold Coast) are one of the clubs," Niall told AFL Trade Radio. "Not knowing who the coach may be, that is unhelpful, because the coach-player relationship is pretty fundamental."

The Suns are due to receive the findings of a review into all sections of the club's football department this week, with opinion divided on whether that review will recommend McKenna be given the axe.

Speculation is also rife about the futures of a host of other top-line players, including Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield, Collingwood pair Dayne Beams and Heretier Lumumba, Essendon's Paddy Ryder and Carlton's Jarrad Waite.

Player agent Paul Connors, who manages Dangerfield, said he believed the champion midfielder would stay in Adelaide. Connors also manages Beams, and said the star Magpie was determined to return to Queensland and wanted to play for the Brisbane Lions.

Ryder seems certain to end up at Port Adelaide and Waite, who walked out on Carlton yesterday after 13 seasons, is all but assured of playing for North Melbourne next season.
