Gold Coast woman killed in truck smash at Pomona
LATEST: A YOUNG woman from the Gold Coast has died following a crash on the Bruce Highway at Pomona during the storms on the Sunshine Coast on Friday afternoon.
Around 5.30pm, a car travelling southbound collided head-on with a B-double truck travelling in the opposite direction.
A 23-year-old Southport woman was declared deceased at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 67-year-old Widgee man, did not suffer any serious physical injuries.
The Bruce Highway was closed for several hours but re-opened around 12:30am.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
Earlier: Tow-truck drivers have now successfully retrieved a car that ended deep in bushland after the crash, which involved four vehicles. The driver of that car, a young woman, died in the crash.
Police at the scene were unable to say how old the woman was or where she was from.
The driver of the truck was taken to Nambour Hospital with minor injuries while two other people who had been in two other vehicles involved in the crash were taken to Gympie Hospital with minor injuries.
UPDATE 7.50pm: Tow-truck drivers are attempting to retrieve a car involved in a fatal crash with a B-double truck on the Bruce Highway near Pomona.
The car is down an embankment, deep into bush by the southbound lane, while the truck is deep in bush on the other side of the road.
UPDATE 7pm: A MOTORIST is dead following an accident on the Bruce Hwy between the Pomona exit and Black Mountain.
A car and truck collided nose-to-tail in wet conditions at about 5.30pm.
The truck driver is being treated at the scene for shock.
Both lanes of the highway are closed and delays are expected.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is asking motorists to proceed with caution.
INITIAL REPORT: The Bruce Highway is closed in both directions following a major crash at Pomona.
At least one truck is believed to have been involved in the crash which happened between Pioneer Rd and Pomona Connection Rd about 5.30pm.
Police are looking at ways to divert traffic around the scene.
The crash comes after a lightning storm hit the Sunshine Coast with passengers capturing bolts in the sky from their cars in the video below.
