Collingwood Magpies sweat on fitness of Scott Pendlebury

COLLINGWOOD captain Scott Pendlebury will need to pass a fitness test today to be considered for selection in tomorrow night's game against St Kilda at the MCG.

Pendlebury (pictured) had scans on his injured ankle on Monday and left training early yesterday for more treatment.

The Magpies' midfield, already missing Levi Greenwood (broken ankle) and Steele Sidebottom (broken thumb), will also be without Ben Sinclair (hamstring) and possibly Taylor Adams (ankle) after the pair picked up injuries in last weekend's 27-point loss to the Adelaide Crows. Coach Nathan Buckley said youngsters Nathan Freeman, Jordan De Goey and Darcy Moore were in line for selection.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade said captain Gary Ablett could be out for up to five weeks after aggravating his reconstructed left shoulder in the first two rounds of the season.

Eade said the dual Brownlow medallist's shoulder joint was "never going to be 100% because he's had an operation".

"Once you've had an invasive procedure there is obviously some limitation within the joint and whatever the case may be," he said.

Eade also said the loss of Ablett and the winless start to the season was a good challenge for his side.

"There's two ways you can (deal with it) - either cower and sook and crawl under a rock, or you stand up," he said. The Suns will also be without running defender Jarrod Harbrow (shoulder) for Sunday's game against Geelong at Simonds Stadium.
