Magistrate shirty over poorly dressed defendant
NEWLY appointed Magistrate Simon Young was filling in for Maxine Baldwin Monday and took exception to a poorly dressed defendant.
Dylan Zane Henderson, 18, of Gympie, appeared facing charges of possessing drugs and utensils.
Henderson sought an application for drug diversion but had his matter stood down when Magistrate Young examined the defendant's appearance.
The Magistrate remarked on Henderson's "scrubby old T-shirt".
"You roll up dressed like that and expect drug diversion?" Magistrate Young asked.
The matter was stood down for a period of time before later being dealt with.
Police searched Henderson's Gympie bedroom on May 30 and found six grams of cannabis in a clip seal bag, two grams of cannabis seeds and a bowl with a further two grams of cannabis.
Three water pipes were also found.
Henderson pleaded guilty to the charges and was ordered to undertake drug diversion.
He was also placed on a $250 good behaviour bond for four months and the items seized were forfeited.
