Magistrate: People at licensed premises have a right to feel safe

A MONKLAND man, 20, was fined $700 in Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday for failing to leave Tremors night club, when ordered out.

Alis Flinn pleaded guilty to failing to leave licensed premises when he was told to, on January 31, 2016.

Flinn's legal representative said Flinn had attended other premises and returned to the night club, where he was refused entry.

When he saw others being allowed in, he asked why he was excluded.

Police told the Court Flinn had also threatened retribution against staff.

Magistrate Mr M Bice told Flinn people at licensed premises had a right to feel safe and licensees had the right to refuse entry to anyone.

Referring to an existing suspended jail sentence, Mr Bice said he did not think it would be just to activate the sentence, but he did extend its suspension period by one month.

In another matter before the court, Reece Lyon Hames was fined $800, with no conviction recorded for failing to leave licensed premises on April 30.
