Mackay recruit takes on former club

MACKAY recruit Chris Gesch will take on his former club when the STM Cutters tackle the Central Capras in a trial on February 18.

That match is part of a huge day of football in Mackay, which includes the NRL trial between the North Queensland Cowboys and Gold Coast Titans.

Gesch, 20, played for the Central Queensland club - then called the Comets - for two years before linking up with the Cutters this season.

He made his first appearance in Mackay colours in last weekend's six-point loss to the North Queensland under-20 team at Virgin Australia Stadium.

Gesch said the team hoped good crowd support would help it turn the stadium into an intimidating venue for visiting teams.
