Luxury duo spearheads new range

AUSTRALIA'S newest luxury brand is hoping slow and steady wins the race.

Infiniti will hit the Australian market with a whimper and not a bang when its two-model line-up of cars goes on sale in three dealerships at the end of August.

Nissan's luxury brand announced pricing and specifications for its FX SUV and M mid-sized sedan as it prepares to take on Lexus, BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

Infiniti Australia general manager Kevin Snell is keeping his expectations for 2012 sales figures closely guarded but admits this year is about establishing the brand, not selling lots of cars.

He said the brand will push a customer-focused agenda that will include free 24-hour roadside assistance for all Infiniti owners - that will cover the owner even if they are not driving an Infiniti at the time.

He is hoping to grow rapidly in Australia as Nissan ramps up the brand around the world.

The smaller G series coupe and convertible will hit local showrooms by the end of the year before the all-new sedan arrives in late 2013.

Beyond that a compact SUV is in the works for 2014 or 2015, as is an all-new hatch that is being developed in partnership with Mercedes-Benz which should arrive at about the same time.
