WAGGY tails and fluffy fidos will be recognised for their puppy appeal at this year's Gympie Show novelty dog competition.

While pure-bred pups strut their stuff in the show ring, pooches with a special knack for obedience, tricks and tail wagging will shine in the novelty event on May 18.

Dogs will also be awarded for having the happiest face, fluffiest or shiniest coat - and the best (human) child handler will also be awarded.

Entry forms at show ticket sellers at Centro Gympie, Goldfields Plaza or online at gympieshow.org.au but undecided doggy divas can wait until the last minute to enter, with entries taken at the stud cattle arena from 9.30am on the day.

The cost is $2 to enter a primped or talented dog in the novelty event, with $10 to be won for first prize.
