Stags deafeat Dolphins

A TRYING run of defeats in the Sunshine Coast C Grade competition was broken by the Mary Valley Stags rugby league team at the weekend.

Playing away at the Beachmere Sports Ground Saturday afternoon, the Stags put their heads together to find a way out of an extended losing streak.

Mary Valley overcame Kawana with a solid score line of 40-30, thrilling a small but vocal contingent of home town support to have travelled to the game.

The win hasn’t had an impact on the Stags’ position on the ladder with - the team remaining in ninth position from 12 teams.

Rounding out the top five teams at the pointy end of the ladder in contention for the finals is Kilcoy, Bribie Island, Coolum, Caloundra and Yandina.

A cluster of narrow defeats in recent weeks will be playing on the mind of the Mary Valley boys as their position on the ladder could be drastically different.

However, being the side’s first year in the competition, players can be pleased with their form against existing sides.

The Stags play next weekend against Maroochydore/Coolum at 1.30pm.
