’Loner’ missing in croc-infested rainforest

The search for a missing Victorian man who bogged his ute in North Queensland's crocodile-infested Daintree rainforest is set to resume, with police fearing for his safety.

Milan Lemic, 25, was last seen at Bairds Crossing near the Upper Daintree Village about 4.30pm on Sunday, police said.

A witness offered to get a tractor to help free Mr Lemic's car but when he returned 20 minutes later he was gone, Senior Sergeant Ed Lukin said.

An air, land and river search yesterday failed to find Mr Lemic, who was described as a loner.

"There are concerns for his safety (so) we're (also) sending a vehicle up the Cred Track to see how far they get to see if there is any indication of this person," Senior Sergeant Lukin said.

"Obviously we (also) can't discount the fact that there's some animal interaction that may have led to his disappearance."

Officers will also conduct a night search of the Daintree River.

"To assess the likelihood of (a crocodile attack) being one of the outcomes," Senior Sergeant Lukin said.

Mr Lemic was last seen wearing a bright fluorescent singlet, black gym shirt with white writing on it, black tracksuit pants, no shoes and no hat. He is 191cm tall with black hair.
