NOT MANY new animal friends are made at cattle sales, but for four year old Flint, love was in the air.

Flint Knight was at the cattle sale yesterday with mum Shannon and grandma Claire Black who were there to buy a young calf as a pet for the kids.

Shannon said the she felt a little sorry for the calf as it would have four kids under ten to deal with.

Flint was very excited about the purchase.

After having a cuddle with the calf, Flint was smitten.

"He loves me and he loves the name I gave him," Flint said.

"He wants me to buy him," He said.

Flint has chosen the name Spotty for his new calf buddy and will share him with his three siblings.

Flint's grandma said the calf was very calm which was great for the kids.
