Leap year birthday extra special

DESPITE being born in 2004, young Daniel Howard will tomorrow celebrate only his second birthday.

No, he's not some kind of anomaly who ages at a slower speed to the rest of the population.

Daniel was born on February 29 and as a result is only able to celebrate his actual birthday every four years.

During those years in which that extra day is absent from the calendar, Daniel would celebrate his birthday a day earlier.

Mum Helen said when February 29 finally rolls around, the family puts a little more effort into Dan's birthday.

"We always try to do something a bit more special and have a bit of a bigger party," Mrs Howard said.

"I think this is the first time he is really excited about having it on the real day."

The leap year baby is making the most of this rare occasion and will spend tomorrow afternoon celebrating his birthday with his best mates.

Dan and his friends will spend the afternoon bouncing on a jumping castle, kicking the footy and scoffing down a delicious Broncos themed cake.
