A REASONABLE field of 42 players last Monday despite the late change of plans to have an 8am shotgun start due to a mixup over a previous course booking.
Thanks to everyone who turned up at such short notice. It's great to see the strong commitment our Vets show to the club.
The small field meant the competition was confined to just two divisions.
Considering the condition of the course, scoring was pretty good.
Tim Coogan won A Division with a nett 67.
Wayne Hastie playing off a 4 handicap was the runner up on 69 while third place went to Doug Sutton with a nett 70.
The placings confirmed that the 'cream usually rises to the top'.
Andrew Towning won B Division with a fine 67 nett.
The handicapper must come looking for you soon Andrew! Good to see Lionel Muir return to form to take out the runner up spot with a nett 68 on a countback from Bill Wood and Greg Mitchell.
Bill Wood won the Club Pin and the ball run down went to 75.
Jelliatrics...and the Spec Saver's award went to Alan McTaggart who upon reaching the par 5 13th in two, you would surmise he was putting for eagle. Alas, Alan was in fact on the wrong green because he was actually playing the 5th.
On Tuesday we went on the (don't tell our bus driver Jeff we know the destination) mystery trip to Beerwah.
As we sailed past the Caloundra turn off, back seat passengers were heard to say "he's missed the turn off” However driver Jeff had the last laugh because had everyone safely at their destination via the Roy's Road entrance.
It was a pleasure to play on good greens and fairways although the Beerwah course needs rain just like the Gympie course to bring the fairways up to scratch.
Gerry O'Dunbar took out A Division with 39 points on a countback from Bob 'I'm dreaming about how I can add to me putter collection' Abbott.
What got Gerry over the line was the five points he earned from an eagle 2 on one of the most difficult holes on the course.
Well done to the "Irish kid”.
Jeffrey "Hubcaps” was third, one shot back on 38.
Hubcaps put his loss down to declining 'mojo'.
Kevin Schmitt started poorly on the front nine but came home strongly with 24 points to win B Division on a countback from the unlucky Peter Reilly.
Four other players were in the mix for third place but a countback finally decided it should go to Gerry Entwistle. Bill Wood scored an eagle after chipping in for 3 on a par 5. Congratulations Bill!
Next Tuesday, get your teams together for a 4 person Ambrose.
The afternoon field will start at 12.30 so as to not interfere with the early starters.
