FORBIDDEN love and its dramatic ramifications come to life tonight with Gympie State High School’s stage production of West Side Story.
This evening’s performance is the last chance to see the musical, which is centred on the tale of two lovers from opposing gangs in West Manhattan and inspired by history’s most famous forbidden romance, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
With memorable hits such as Somewhere, Tonight, I Feel Pretty, America, Maria and many more, it is a captivating, energetic performance packed with drama.
Production director Kerryn Mason said students had practised diligently and were ecstatic to have this opportunity to strut their stuff on the stage in such a well renowned production.
“We are very lucky to have the talents of such successful music and dance students as Kathryn Gage playing Maria and Rebekah Lima as Anita,” she said.
Ms Mason suggested part of the reason Gympie High chose West Side Story was the strong cohort of senior dance students who took roles and assisted with the choreography.
See the show at Hamilton Hall, starting tonight a 7pm, tickets available at the door.
