Lane out of event after top effort

RAINBOW Beach surfer Noah Lane was eliminated in the Sri Lankan Airlines Pro at Arugam Bay Monday.

Lane was one of a number of Sunshine Coast surfers taking part in the Six Star ASP World Tour event.

Lane finished third in his heat and was eliminated.

However, Sunshine Coast’s Julian Wilson, Chris Friend and Mitch Coleborn all progressed to the round of 24.

Wilson said he was thrilled to have progressed so far into the event, his first major competition since overcoming an ankle injury.

“Great waves here and the quality of surfing now we’ve hit the final 24 is stepping up,” he said.

“Nothing short of two excellent rides in every heat (is needed), so all us Sunny Coast boys will need to step it up.”

The swell is tipped to peak Thursday.
