Lambert report won't be released

THE Australian Defence Force will not publicly release a report from an inquiry into the death of Private Matthew Lambert in Afghanistan in August last year.

Private Lambert was killed on August 22, 2011, when an improvised explosive device blew up when he was on patrol in the Khas Uruzgan region north-east of Tarin Kot.

An inquiry into his death was completed on Wednesday, and Defence released a statement saying it would implement seven of the eight inquiry recommendations.

The eighth recommendation was that a Commission of Inquiry was not needed, and while a copy of the report was given to Private Lambert's family, Defence will not release it publicly on grounds of operational security.
