Kelso made of tough stuff

A SEIZED up clutch denied Gympie pocket rocket Joel Kelso from claiming first place at the Queensland Junior Long Track Titles in Brisbane at the weekend.

Kelso, 7, finished second overall at the event, showing remarkable maturity to overcome the mechanical setback.

The event consisted of seven races, of which Kelso won six.

After claiming the opening race, Kelso hit bike troubles in the second and posted a DNF (did not finish) ultimately costing him the title. Proud mum Nayelle said her son battled on to win the next five races and take out second.

“He didn’t drop his head after what happened in the second race.

“We’re so proud of him,” she said.
