Katter gives Newman thumbs up

KATTER'S Australian Party has given the Queensland Government the thumbs up for its first 100 days in office - but wants the regions to reap more rewards.

The LNP celebrated its100th day in power on Tuesday and the achievements they made along the way.

Giving "credit where credit is due," Katter's Australian Party state leader Rob Katter gave the LNP a cautious thumbs up.

"This government has inherited a mess and we will support any sensible moves to fix it up, even when it is unpopular," the Mount Isa MP said. "Disbanding the climate change office, recovering overpayments from the health payroll debacle and cutting funds for wasteful grants were the right decisions to make."

Mr Katter is one of two Australian Party first-time MPs in State Parliament and who says he has made a conscious effort to shine light on regional issues to his fellow parliamentarians.

The party leader still wants to see LNP support on a royalties to regions bill and a snapshot of how many regional jobs will go under the LNP's widespread job cuts.

The Opposition has also demanded the LNP reveal how many jobs will be at stake in regional Queensland.

Almost half of the public service work in regional Queensland, including more than 10,000 in both the Darling Downs and Sunshine Coast and 5914 in Mackay.
