Kate Middleton's car up for auction

SHE may not have driven for a few years, but a Volkswagen Golf once owned by new royal Kate Middleton is expected to sell on eBay for more than £30,000 (AU $45,120).

A report by UK newspaper The Daily Mail claims the 2001 model VW three-door hatch was sold to 21-year-old Sonny Brazil in 2009, who is now selling the car following a valuation from an auctioneer.

“I went to an auction house in Dorset a few weeks ago and they said it would be worth £30,000 plus, purely because of the name in the log book,” Brazil told The Daily Mail. “It's amazing to think I only paid about £1400 for the car and now it's worth far more than that.”

According to The Daily Mail, the car was originally purchased by Middleton’s family in November 2001 for £10,818.

The car’s logbooks show that Miss Catherine Middleton was the first registered owner of the Golf, which she owned until 2007 before reportedly giving it to her brother following her break-up with Prince William.

The blue 1.4-litre hatchback may appear familiar to avid royal watchers as Kate was snapped while driving it several times by the paparazzi, including her famous stoush with a parking inspector outside her London flat in 2007.

The eBay auction is scheduled to end at 8:27 pm (British Summer Time) on Sunday July 24, with the highest bid at the time of writing having already reached £25,100
