Karate talk promotes virtues

GYMPIE Karate Academy Sensei, Noel Turner, drew on 36 years of experience to host a special seminar at the weekend.

Held Saturday, Turner, a 6 Dan Black Belt and chief instructor of the Australia Japan Karate-Do Ryobu-Kai, conducted the seminar attracting members from Bundaberg, Maryborough and Gympie.

The seminar sought to revise basic and advanced Kata as well as self defence skills.

“The Australia Kapan Karate-Do Ryobu-Kai background is Shindo Jinen Ryi Jutsu, which means learning to develop and unite shin (mind), GI (technique) and Tai (body) in proper proportions,” Turner said.

“The end result is awareness of the moral obligations and usefulness to society.”

Turner stressed the emphasis of respect, honour and loyalty throughout the seminar – all of which are qualities for life.

Turner also hosts similar seminars for clubs based in Brisbane and even further afield in Sydney.

For the students, the seminar has introduced new skills and disciplines while also brushing up on the familiar basics.
