Karate gradings show off skills

GYMPIE Karate Club members got the chance to show off last week just how much they had improved during another grading session.

Sensei Noel Turner said the grading, held on June 17 at the club in Iron Street, was “excellent”.

The grading consisted of basic techniques, including kata, kumite, spirit, concentration, discipline, stances, blocks, punches, kicks and strikes.

Core values such as respect and honour were also evaluated.

“This year the club has grown, with new members coming through,” Sensei Tuner said.

Sensei Turner said the gradings were also used to remind members of the importance of perseverance, karate spirit and humanity.
