Kangaroos teammates heap praise on Klemmer

RUGBY LEAGUE: David Klemmer is likely to come off the bench in the Four Nations clash with England in London on Sunday night (midnight, AEST).

He has been a revelation in the Kangaroos' games with Scotland and New Zealand, and his Australian teammates say he can continue to make his mark coming on as an impact forward.

Skipper Cameron Smith said the Canterbury prop, who made 141 metres from 11 carries and had three tackle breaks in the 14-8 win over New Zealand, and fellow front-rower Shannon Boyd had been outstanding against the Kiwis.

"They bring a lot of energy to the side, which is what we ask the benchies to do,” Smith said.

"(Klemmer) has been great in the last two games and thrives on the big games and thrives on playing against quality packs.”

Klemmer has a close friendship with Tigers star Aaron Woods, who said his mate had raised his game so far.

"I think he's gone to another level on this tour,” Woods said.

"It was like he was running from the back fence and in the second half from the first kick-off he almost sliced through.

"He's getting a lot more confidence. People forget that this has been only his second year starting for the Bulldogs ... he's only still a kid.”

Sam Thaiday has also been coming off the bench in the Four Nations and said it had been good to get a different perspective.

"We've got a good little mix going at the moment,” he said.

"Big Boydy and big Klem are doing a great job sparking the team after Matty Scott and Woodsy have done their bit.

"As for me, well, I've decided to call myself the utility with ability.”
