Kabi Kabi help revegetate Duck Holes Creek Caloundra
Duck Holes Creek Park along Caloundra Road (west) has had helping hands from Kabi Kabi Traditional Owners over the last 12 months with weed control and the planting out of over 450 native seedlings.
This park area (managed by Sunshine Coast Council) is a significant traditional and historical place to the Kabi Kabi, and is much deserving of ongoing care in riparian management.
Despite much recent wet weather and water through the creek, the native seedlings have held up well, and are quickly growing into young trees.
A number of the species planted include Blue gum, Swamp box, acacia and lomandra, sourced through Florabunda Bushcare nursery at Woombye.
Unitywater has sponsored this revegetation project while upgrading their pump station. May last year saw Unitywater launch their Reconciliation Action Plan here with local Traditional Owner representatives and the wider community.
More information about the history of Duck Holes Creek area is available through the libraries of the Sunshine Coast Council, while the stories of the Kabi Kabi artwork around the pump station are available on the Unitywater website.
