Police say Noosaville drive by not connected with gangs

UPDATE 2PM:

POLICE now believe a single shot only was fired in a targeted shooting in Noosa on Monday afternoon but are not prepared to say it was bike or drug related at this stage.

Noosa Police Inspector Jon Lewis said this afternoon there was no evidence at this stage that points to "any particular group at all" as detectives from Noosa, Maroochydore and "further afield" continue to work on the case.

"Our inquiries have led us to believe there was a single shot fired in Hilton Tce yesterday afternoon," Insp Lewis said.

"We don't believe it was a random shooting, so we don't hold fears for the (general) community.

"Notwithstanding the activities and the actions are certainly a concern to the extent that a member of the community could well have been severely injured."

The inspector understands onlookers at the scene saw a "weapon of some kind" but this is yet to be confirmed. No bullet has been recovered at this stage.

Police are searching for a 27-year-old male suspect, but Insp Lewis said he could not comment on a report that occupants of a house, which may have been associated with the shooting, have moved out of the property.

"We're running out a range of leads," he said.

"That includes on the Gold Coast now, obviously as well as up here on the Coast.

"Witnesses have provide information in relation to a black Commodore wagon that is of interest to us.

"That vehicle was also seen on the Gold Coast highway at Helensvale late yesterday afternoon."

Insp Lewis said if anyone does spot the vehicle of interest they should contact police via triple 0 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000, but has warned against the public approaching the car.

He again appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward with the details, no matter how "miniscule" as they could prove significant.

Neighbours said they had heard ongoing arguments inside and outside a home around 2.30pm, before a black station wagon arrived.

Reports indicate people from the weatherboard house hidden from road with a mass of unkempt bushes, were yelling at a man who arrived in a black car.

Witnesses said the car took off and returned a couple of times, each time there was more loud fighting.

It is alleged that at one stage, a man chased the car on foot, down Hilton Tce, towards Noosaville.

When the car returned towards the house, a gun was allegedly fired.

UPDATE:

WITNESSES have given conflicting reports of what happened at Noosaville this afternoon after gunshots were heard in a suburban street.

An employee from the Tewantin Noosa Bowls Club said she poked her head out the window when she heard three young men and a woman fighting and swearing while walking on the footpath of Hilton Terrace.

Seconds later she heard a "loud noise".

Neighbours said they had heard ongoing arguments inside and outside a home, before a black station wagon arrived and shots were fired.

They said it was just luck that no one else was hurt in a fracas that allegedly involved three young men and a woman.
