GYMPIE junior hockey players got stuck into the Gympie Hockey Junior Knockout Competition last week.

The competition, held Friday evening and Saturday, couldn't have been more fortunate, striking perfect winter weather.

Gympie Hockey spokesperson Desli Adams was pleased with the success of the event and the spirit in which games were played.

“It was a beautiful winter's day and perfect hockey-playing weather for this hotly contested competition by all age groups, with some great sponsored prizes up for grabs for the winning teams,” she said.

Adams said while the club had many volunteers to step forward and make the competition a reality, the support of local businesses was also greatly appreciated.

Businesses offering support included Sportspower, Cold Rock and Eagle Boys.

Results: Under 9 – Blades and Vikings (joint winners). Under 11 – Thundersticks. Under 13 – Hot Shots.

Players wait eagerly for the next round when competition resumes.
