Junior Cats a cut above rest

COACHING the modern game of AFL the right way is responsible for the Gympie Cats AFL club's success in the junior ranks, says club president Glen Warren.

The Gympie club has had an outstanding year with its junior players, helped by the recent achievements of Joel Perry-Warren and Hayden Izod.

Both played in the Gympie Cats Under 12 Division 1 team and although knocked out of the preliminary finals by Maroochydore, the pair has plenty to cheer about.

The Sunshine Coast competition held its presentation night at the Maroochydore RSL Tuesday and both picked up awards.

Perry-Warren was named Under 12 Division 1 best and fairest while Izod was crowned the league's leading goal kicker, kicking 36 goals for the season.

Meanwhile, Jack Clouston was named third best and fairest in the Under 14 ranks while Callum Lee and Codey Andrews were 7th and eighth respectively.

In other news, the Gympie club will hold its own presentation next Saturday at 2pm.
