Judge warns unlicensed driver

REPEAT unlicensed driver Jason Ian Tilley, 23, learned he would be using his legs to get around for another two years after he drove in Gympie on February 7, while his licence was disqualified.

He said he was driving to a friend’s place to get a lift to visit his partner and new-born baby in hospital but said in hindsight he should have got his mate to pick him up instead.

The court heard Tilley, of Lehn Court, Monkland, had been disqualified from driving for six months in November last year and would be disqualified again for the mandatory two years.

“Your child will be two-years-old before you can drive it around but if you don’t make two years your child will be visiting you in (jail),” Magistrate Maxine Baldwin told him and added a fine of $800 to his penalty.
