Join in the relay fun

LOCALS are being encouraged to come along, support their friends and family and join in the fun of this weekend’s Gympie Relay For Life kicking off at 2pm today, at the One Mile Sports Complex.

Relay For Life co-ordinator Sara Morley said everyone was welcome to attend Relay, even if they weren’t registered in a team.

“Relay For Life is about communities getting together to celebrate life, remember loved ones lost and fight back against cancer,” she said.

More than 200 locals are expected to lace-up for the 18-hour event, raising funds and awareness for Cancer Council Queensland’s vital work in cancer research, patient support services and education programs.

“Our teams will be walking for 18-hours and having a fresh, smiling face encouraging them on at the sidelines is always a great thing.

“During the event, there will be entertainment for the whole family, including live music and a performance by up-and-coming Brisbane band The Deckchairs, jumping castles, food stalls and our traditional relay talent show at 5pm, which is open to both local supporters and participants.

The three main relay ceremonies are the opening ceremony Saturday at 3pm, the candlelight ceremony Saturday at 7pm and the fight back ceremony Sunday at 9am.
