Jobs joy in $7m plan
AS MANY as 50 jobs could be generated by the new $7 million Coles Express service station and complex on the Bruce Hwy in Gympie, just north of Pizza Hut.
Developed by investment group Gympie Commercial Investments Pty Ltd, the complex will feature six fuel bowsers and a service station, five retail outlets, including a 495sq m warehouse retail outlet on the upper storey towards the back, two-street access (to the Bruce Hwy and Excelsior Rd) and car parking for almost 40 vehicles.
Marketing consultant Nathan O'Neill said yesterday the other retail outlets ranged in size from 50sq m, to 75sq m to 110sq m and that negotiations were underway for three of the five stores on site.
"We are talking to two national tenancies at the moment," he said.
The one tenant that is confirmed is Beefy's, famous for their award-winning meat pies.
GCI team member Louise Brogan said yesterday a grand opening was planned for the complex sometime in the first half of August.
Hopefully that would happen at the end of the first week, weather permitting.
Work started on the building before Christmas but rain has caused some delays.
"We have used local people wherever we can (on this project)," she said this week.
Initial research on the project has indicated the complex will receive 5700 visits a week, Mr O'Neill said.
"The good thing is there is nothing else in Gympie that offers both," he said.
