Jobs, rates the major issues: mayor

MAYOR of the first term of Gympie Regional Council Ron Dyne believes the big issues facing the incoming local authority will be jobs and rates.

As the amalgamated council enters its second term it will need to continue to pressure the State Government to develop the Cooroy to Curra bypass and complete the new Town Plan, Mr Dyne said.

"We are at that time in our development as a council area that we need to have those people on board who can work as a team so we don't end up with a battlefield the way they did in the last four years of the Cooloola Shire Council," he said.

"We need a council that will control rates, but that shouldn't be difficult because of the decisions (the outgoing council has) made."

Another major issue will be attracting industry to the Mary Valley and resolving land issues.
