Jessica is Lions Youth of the Year

LAST week saw four very talented year 11 students hotly contest the Gympie Lions Youth of the Year trophy. Each student spent some quality time with the judges during the day.

Judges were Regan Donovan from National Australia Bank which has been a major sponsor for the quest for many year, Ruth Stephan and Indra Boss. The night session was held at the RSL Orchid Room, , and each student had to give a two minute impromptu speech, the first one being mobile phones – can’t live with them – can’t live without them.

The second question – Dogs make better pets than cats. Each student had to give a five minute prepared speech – topics were varied – John White from St Patrick’s College spoke about “The Indifference of the Media” , Kaarina Onvlee from Victory College about “Self Image”, Jessica Bahr from James Nash State High School – “Music has Lost it’s Meaning” and Dean Langton from James Nash “Nuclear Energy in Australia”. After lengthy deliberation Kaarina Onvlee was named speaker for the night and Jessica Bahr Gympie Lions Youth of the Year.
