JERSEY Boys brought a bit of the "old neighbourhood" to Brisbane last night.

It was Queensland's turn to be bowled over by the four talented lead actors who came to Brisbane on the back of a record-breaking season in Auckland.

The award-winning musical tells the story of Frankie Valli and the original Four Seasons - founding member Tommy DeVito, bass vocalist Nick Massi and songwriter Bob Gaudio.

The Auckland and Brisbane seasons include several changes from the original Melbourne cast, including young talent Declan Egan in his professional theatre debut as Gaudio and Anthony Harken as volatile DeVito.

Former Ten Tenor Graham Foote played Valli on opening night, a role he shares with Dion Bilios.

After seeing Bilios in Auckland, I can say that Foote does just as much justice to Valli's trademark falsetto.

The jukebox musical is both joyous and sobering as it charts the formation, evolution and reinvention of one of the bestselling music groups of all time.

It's hard not to sing along to hits like Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry and Can't Take My Eyes Off You, although I found it easier to mouth the words rather than try to hit Valli's high notes.

There are plenty of laughs, as well as a few tears, but the majority of the show is devoted to the Four Seasons' catchy chart toppers.

If only modern-day New Jersey could produce another super group like the Four Seasons, rather than the reality TV train wreck that is Jersey Shore.

Jersey Boys plays QPAC's Lyric Theatre Tuesdays through Sundays until September 16.

Tickets start from $60. To book go to the QPAC website.
