Jail for 'evil' domestic violence offender

A MAN who repeatedly threatened his wife with a knife has been jailed for six months, with Gladstone magistrate Jeffrey Clarke calling the man's behaviour evil.

"It is a disgusting example of domestic violence," Mr Clarke said.

He told the 32-year-old he had used "an extreme level of violence toward a woman you say you love".

The magistrate said there was no explanation for the offender's behaviour.

The man pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to assault causing bodily harm, assault, and two counts of contravening a Domestic Violence Order.

He was also re-sentenced on prior offences including wilful damage, fraud, unlawful use of a vehicle, and drug offences.

Prosecutor Sen Const Sam Pyke said the facts spoke for themselves, describing the man as a recidivist offender with a propensity for violence.

Defence lawyer Jun Pepito said the couple at that time wanted to give the relationship another go in Gladstone.

Mr Pepito said the man was ashamed by what he did to someone he loved and realised his behaviour was atrocious.

Mr Clarke sentenced the man to 18 months jail, eligible for parole on November 30.
