Ipswich, Coast mayors demand money to cope with growth

MAYORS of Australia's fastest-growing councils - the Gold and Sunshine coasts, Moreton, Redlands, Logan and Ipswich all argue the State Government must invest in Southeast Queensland's growth regions in Tuesday's state budget.

"The government has got to start investing in growth areas," Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale said.

"We are growing at twice the state average and we need help," he said.

Sunshine Coast mayor Mark Jamieson said the state government must recognise the growing pains of the Sunshine Coast.

"Overall, I would like to see a fairer deal for the Sunshine Coast so we can start to see government investment in this region," Cr Jamieson said.

Population growth issues in Southeast Queensland have recently prompted urban planners to say 12 new mega cities are needed.
